On Thursday April 21, a fight rumored to be over a boy at Howard High School of Technology located in Wilmington, Delaware, resulted in the death of 16 year-old sophomore Amy Inita Joyner-Francis.

The fight, says the principal of the high school, Stanley Spoor, started around 8:15 am “in a bathroom on the main floor of the school.” Chief of staff Gary Fullman informed that the fight was initially between Amy and another girl when others suddenly joined in on the attack. It’s been reported that during the confrontation, Amy banged her head on the bathroom sink.

On the day of the fight, Amy planned on trying to “settle the beef,” according to 16 year-olds Shytera Dawkins and Kayla Sutrell who both claim to be a close friend of hers says cbsnews.com. “She went in there to talk things out. She didn’t believe in fighting, and the craziest thing is she died in a fight” said Nick Stryminski, a classmate of Amy’s told Delaware Online reports rollingout.com.

The school sent an automated call to the homes of students so they could be brought home earlier than usual due to the unexpected, tragic event. Wilmington police interrogated two students but no definite charged have been made yet according to cnn.com.

Amy, being severely injured, was taken to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children by a helicopter. She died shortly after her arrival. A vigil was held for Amy later on in the day where many joined to mourn her death.
