Jemison Notches 200 Hits in Spartans 19-7 Victory

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Andrew Jemison of the St Thomas Aquinas Spartans smacked the two hundredth hit of his collegiate career on Sunday as the Spartans romped the Mercy Mavericks 19-7.

Jemison, the grad shortstop, nabbed hit number 200 in the top of the 9th inning on an RBI single to bring home Freddy Flugger.

Jemison had a great performance Sunday, going three for six with a single, two doubles, and four RBIs while scoring two runs.  

Jemison was not the only one with a stellar hitting performance in Sunday’s game. Designated hitter Kyle LaGrutta went three for four with a home run and seven RBIs.

Second baseman CJ Cumbo also had a noteworthy performance going three for seven with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Spartans Andrew Guerra and Greg DiGaro each had two hits on the day. David Potenza, Freddy Flugger, Kyle DeCrease, and Ryan Appell all had hits.

Andrew Alameda got the start for the Spartans. Alameda struck out three while allowing two earned runs, five hits, and three walks.  

Bobby LeFevre relieved Alameda in the bottom of the sixth. LeFevre gave up three hits and four earned runs including a home run to the Mavericks Janiel Ramirez.

LeFevre was relieved by Jack Wilde in the same inning.  Wilde would pitch three innings, giving up one hit and one run while striking out three batters.

The final reliever was Robert Williams who shut the Mavericks down in the bottom of the ninth, allowing no runs or hits and striking out one.

The Spartans improve to 11-13 overall and 5-2 for the conference as they prepare to face the College of St. Rose Wednesday at Clover Stadium in Pomona, NY.
