It was senior day at Spartan Field on Saturday afternoon. The eight seniors on the team–Joe Cutajar, Denis Lazo-Cruz, Jack Legg, Mike Wagner, Kenneth Caraballo, Ivan Gomez, Mike Corbi, and Johan Loyer–were honored before the game for all the hard work they put in these past years.
They went on to the field and took pictures with their coaches and parents. It was a sweet moment, but they knew they had to put their emotions aside; the game time was at 2:00 after the ceremonies concluded.
It was the seniors who got the Spartans on the board first. Halfway into the first half, senior Mike Wagner scored on an assist from senior Ivan Gomez. The rest of the half was pretty quiet as the score remained 1-0 after the first half.
With seventeen minutes remaining in the game, the Spartans added another goal. This goal was scored by the freshman Luis Morales. Just when the Spartans thought the game was theirs, Felician added a tally with two minutes left; Kenny Monfort scored on a penalty kick. In the last minute of the game, Felician put the pressure on. Felician has a free kick that was blocked by the Spartan defense to hold the lead and win them the game. 2-1 was the final score.
It was a big win for the Spartans on Senior Day, and they have two games remaining on their schedule. They will be at NYIT on the 28th and have their final game at home on Halloween against LIU Post, both of which are conference games.
