DYLAN BESTLER
The Spartans had two meets in a five day span over their spring break to Florida.
The trip was a success as both the men’s team and women’s team set school records and had many other impressive times and places. On the women’s side, senior Meaghan Ventarola set a school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing first overall. Freshman Molly Conner continues to set records for the Spartans, this one in the 100-meter hurdle, running a time of 16.38. Kristen Borriello ran a very impressive time of 4:42.72 in the 1500, setting a new school record and placing 2nd overall.
For the men, freshman sensation Saint Jacob Diodonet tied the school record in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 21.73 and placing 17th out of 51 athletes. Saint was also in the 4×100-meter relay team along with Frankie Schiavone, Ricardo Reid and Winslow Dorsainvil that set a new school record of 42.54. Elias Guardado jumped 6.15 meters (20 feet, 2.25 inches) in the long jump, setting a new school record. Later in the meet, Justin Brown jumped 6.24 meters (20 feet, 6.75 inches), breaking the record just set by Guardado.
Other impressive performances were had, including Diodonet in the 400-meter, placing 2nd overall with a time of 47.84, and Vinny Vasquez in the 1500-meter, running a time of 4:08.45 and finishing third overall. The Spartans took advantage of the nice Florida weather, but now they have to deal with the cold. Their next meet is at Ramapo College on April 1st and 2nd.
